BJJ Legand: Michelle Nicolini

For those of you who don’t know who Michelle Nicolini is, do your homework! A seven time Mundial Champion (2011, 2010, 2007 weight & absolute, 2006, 2005 purple, 2003 blue), two time World No Gi Champion (2010, 2008), three time Pan American Champion (2011, 2010, 2008) and one time Brazilian Nation Champion (perhaps there’s more I am missing since my source for this has not been updated), this Light Feather weight fighter has won some of the most prestigious championships around the world. She is an incredibly gifted and dynamic fighter and if you ever get the opportunity to see her compete, you most certainly will never forget it. Last year, I had the huge honor of getting to roll with her during her Mundials’ training camp at the Institute of Martial Arts in San Jose. It was just before Michelle won first in an epic war against the equally, legendary athlete Kyra Gracie. Pure ‘arte suave’ pretty much sums it up. I got to flow with her, flow because she had me in position to tap at every move. Graceful and encompassing like the wind, no escape and no less than a true force of nature.
